DT Max T1

1. Version highlights

  1. Two ways to access the CRA Tax Data Delivery service

The Canada Revenue Agency’s (CRA) Tax Data Delivery (TDD) service can now be accessed two different ways from the Client List screen:

    • Menu - Select CRA Tax Data Delivery from the Efile menu.
    • Toolbar (NEW!) - Click the icon on the Client List toolbar.

See the CRA Tax Data Delivery knowledge base page for more information on this exciting feature.

  2. T1135 e-submission

Efile service providers will have the capability to electronically submit the Form T1135, Foreign Income Verification Statement, to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

From the Efile menu, clicking T1135 e-submission and OK will transmit the T1135 Form.

After you click OK, DT Max will automatically submit each T1135 Form separately. The files will be processed in real time, meaning that the response will be almost instantaneous. The results can be viewed from the Efile Transmission Log or from within the client's file.

Please note that if the T1135 e-submission is accepted, DT Max will write the result into the Progress keyword group. If it is rejected, the error code will be written into the EfileT1135Error keyword.

IMPORTANT: Please do not submit paper copies of the form unless requested to do so by the CRA.

To view all the T1135 e-submission error messages, click here.

2. New diagnostics

  1. Notes and diagnostics

Employment expenses - Calculation of work-space-in-the-home expenses

The program has found among the employment income amounts (T4) the employer's name entered in the following Employment-Exp group:

    Employment income . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . (amount)
    Registered pension plan deduction (line 207) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . (amount)
    Annual union, professional, or like dues (line 212) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . (amount)

In the calculation of the amount on line 25 of the section Calculation of work-space-in-the-home expenses, the program considered the employment income and the deduction for registered pension plan (line 207) and the annual union, professional, or like dues (line 212) related to the income.

T2204 - Employee Overpayment of 2014 Employment Insurance Premiums

As per CRA specifications, when the amount on line 3 is greater than $ 2,000 and that the result obtained by subtracting the amount on line 6 from the amount from line 3 (amount A) is lesser than $ 2,000, you must enter on line 12 the lesser amount between the amount from line 9 and the amount equal to $ 2,000 minus amount A.

  2. Error prevention report

    Federal:

    423 - Family tax cut

The DT Max optimization has determined that the taxpayer is eligible for the family tax cut on the federal tax return. DT Max calculated the amount of the family tax cut and completed Schedule 1A.

The taxpayer has a minimum tax amount payable. You might consider claiming the family tax cut in the spouse's return.

If you want to change the program's election, use the keyword Optimize and select the "T1 - Schedule 1A - Family tax cut" option.

T777 Employment expenses - Calculation of work-space-in-the-home expenses

The program has not been able to find among the employment income amounts (T4) the employer's name entered in the Employment-Exp group.

In the calculation of the amount on line 25 of the section Calculation of work-space-in-the-home expenses, the program must consider the employment income, as well as the deduction for registered pension plan (line 207) and the annual union, professional, or like dues (line 212) related to the income.

The program considered the amount from lines 101 and 104 as employment income.

Please ensure that the name of the employer was entered correctly.

    Quebec:

Q391 - Tax credit for workers 65 or older

The taxpayer turned 65 during the year.

You must subtract from the eligible work income the portion of the work income the taxpayer earned during the period before turning 65. Use the keyword Footnotes.t4 of the T4 group and select the option Note - Amount earned before reaching the age of 65 (Q391), or the keyword INCOME-BEF65 to enter the work income earned before turning 65.

3. New keywords

  1. In the keyword group Bankruptcy , pertaining to the type of bankruptcy return:

Pre-FedChildCare : Specify who should claim the federal child care in the pre-bankruptcy return (do not use the net income)

This keyword is used to specify who should claim the federal child care in the pre-bankruptcy return. Keep in mind that DT Max will not determine who should claim the federal child care based on the lower net income.

The following options apply for the keyword Pre-FedChildCare :

T778 - claimed by the family head
T778 - claimed by the spouse of the family head

1. Known issues fixed in version 18.12

  1. Tax return not displayed when using keywords REVOCABLE or BLIND-TRUST

In version 18.10, when the keyword Revocable or the keyword Blind-Trust was entered, the tax return did not display. This issue has been fixed in version 18.12.

  2. Professional dues not claimed on Quebec form TP-80

Professional dues entered with the keyword Expenses.bu were not being claimed on the Quebec TP-80. This amount can now be found on line 246 under "Other expenses" on Quebec form TP-80, Business or Professional Income and Expenses.

2. Version highlights

  1. Adjustment on lines 939 and 954 of federal Schedule 9

A small adjustment was brought to the dividend tax rate to reflect the rate specified on lines 939 and 954 of Schedule 9. This adjusted rate will be used instead of the rate applied for the dividend tax credit on Schedule 11.

  2. Updated inventory code list and program payment list

The inventory code list and the program payment list integrated in DT Max T3 have been updated based on the RC4408, Farming Income and the AgriStability and AgriInvest Programs Harmonized Guide for 2014.

  3. New footnotes added to the T3 slip

New footnotes have been added to the T3 slip for beneficiaries who are residents of Newfoundland and Labrador. These footnotes are to indicate the amount of taxable dividends other than eligible dividends as well as eligible dividends paid before July 1, 2014.

The amounts indicated in the footnotes will be calculated automatically. To override this amount, a new keyword, FOOTNOTES-OV , has been included for this purpose in the Beneficiary group.
